Mad Creek Mitts

Posted by Jami Brynildson on

Designed by waggle dancer Trish Mitberg, the Mad Creek Mitts feature gentle arm shaping so that you can wear them slightly scrunched without a lot of extra fabric at the wrist. Left and right hands are worked differently so that the thumb gores line up with the arm shaping. If you know how to knit in the round and make your basic increases and decreases - or are ready to learn - you can make these mitts. The stripes magically appear as you knit thanks to self-striping Regia Stripemania Color, so it looks like you worked way harder than you really did (always a bonus!). Stripemania is part of the My Mountain yarn collection, so it's machine washable and perfect for active lifestyles.

Trish named the mitts Mad Creek after one of her favorite childhood haunts in Humboldt County, California. Whatever adventures come your way, these cozy mitts will keep you warm and toasty. Knit a pair for yourself and a pair for giving!

As part of our 12 Weeks of Gifts KAL, the pattern is free at the Bee with any purchase and Stripemania Color is 10% off through next Thursday. The pattern is also available for purchase on ravelry. Send us a pic of your finished project, or post one on our Facebook or ravelry pages, and you'll be entered to win a $50 gift certificate.

  • Thanks for your reply, Jamie. I have loved reading the blog for a long time. It makes it easy to find new things to knit…!

  • Hi Ann, Yes – the color is 6363 Leaves. It’s currently on backorder, but we are hoping to have a new shipment in the first week of November. Thanks for reading our blog!

  • Can you tell me which color is shown for the mitts in the above photo? It looks like ‘Leaves’ but I wanted to know. Thanks.
