Figure this! Numbers Every Knitter Should Know

Yarn sizes, needle and hook sizes, metric vs. imperial, stitches per inch ... there's no getting around it, knitting involves numbers. In this class you'll learn how to use these numbers to become a better knitter. We'll pay special attention to gauge, including how to properly measure your stitches per inch and what changes to make to get the gauge your pattern requires. Cost: $25.00 for one sessions.

Learn to knit socks on double pointed needles. Casting on, knitting the leg, working a heel flap, picking up stitches for the gusset, closing the toe… we’ll cover it all using DK weight yarn so that we can see our stitches and make quick progress. OhBoy! Brioche class at Knitting Bee

OhBoy! Brioche

Try brioche stitch for the first time, or increase your brioche confidence. In this class you’ll learn how to knit brioche stitch in the round, first using just one color, then alternating two colors. Christina will guide you through the unique brioche vocabulary of Brk’s and Brp’s, plus you’ll learn the German twisted cast on. Ability to knit in the round required. Pattern designed by Katrin Schubert. Cost: $40.00 for two sessions, materials additional.

Learn the stitches to crochet Darla's beautiful shawl design while working a gauge swatch in class. Along the way Darla will cover all the important things your gauge swatch can tell you. Why is meeting gauge important? Maybe it isn’t if you can still get the results you are looking for. You'll also learn ways to track your progress through multiple row repeats or lengthy stitch instructions and how to work double crochet decreases over 2-3 stitches. Students should be comfortable with basic crochet stitches. Cost: $25.00 for one session, materials additional.

Cotton Bowl

Make this sweet little bowl using two colors of yarn and linked double crochet stitches. You'll come to class with the base of the bowl already worked, then Darla will show you how to grow the sides quickly using the linked double crochet stitches. Linked stitches provide great structure for baskets and bowls, and also add height more quickly than the usual single crochet stitches.

Students should be comfortable with basic crochet stitches and complete the base of the bowl before coming to class (will take approx. 1 - 1.25 hours to crochet).

It begins with one lacy triangular motif. Where it goes from there is up to you! You'll learn how to crochet and join successive motifs as you go, giving you the freedom to make a scarf or wrap the size and shape you desire. You'll also learn how to read the included schematics for creating various shapes, and how to estimate how much yarn you'll need. Students should be comfortable with basic crochet stitches. Bring your projects for trouble-shooting, brush up rusty skills or learn a new technique in a supportive group setting with an experienced knitting instructor. Call ahead to guarantee your place, holiday dates may vary. Circle may be cancelled if fewer than two students. Cost: $8.00 for 1 hour (days only), $16.00 for 2 hours. Or 6-hour punch card: $45.00.

Need help deciphering a pattern? Or maybe you’d like to improve your skills while working on a sampler afghan? Darla is a patient and knowledgeable instructor, happy to share the tips and tricks she’s learned while working for many publishers, yarn companies and teaching at national conferences. Please call by noon on Tuesday before to reserve your spot; pre-paid registration is requested.
Cost: $8.00 for 1 hour, $16.00 for 2 hours.

Kids’ Knitting Circles
