Toe-Up in a Day with Shannon Squire

Learn the techniques of knitting toe-up socks in a one day workshop! Using DK-weight yarn and Shannon's Winter Weekend Socks pattern as a jumping-off point, Shannon will guide you through all the major components of toe-up sock knitting while you work a sample piece (basically a sock without the whole foot). Time permitting, you’ll start your first pair of toe-up socks using the skills you learned earlier in the day (Judy's Magic Cast on, how to increase for the gusset and turn the heel, Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off, and more). Students can use two circulars or one long circular needle (magic loop) and should be comfortable knitting in the round. Cost: $55.00, materials additional.

Tunisian crochet is often called the link between knitting and crochet as it contains elements of both. You don’t have to know either to create Darla’s lovely Spa Cloth. We’ll start at the beginning with the foundation row, then learn Tunisian Simple Stitch, Tunisian Knit Stitch and Tunisian Purl Stitch. Discover the magic of indigo blue! First you’ll learn to make an indigo dye vat using natural materials to produce a quick-acting, reliable, and long-lasting blue. Then we’ll explore different techniques for dyeing yarn. We’ll work outside under a shade tent, so please dress for the weather and bring lunch. Dye, equipment and two 100g skeins yarn included in materials fee. Students may bring additional yarn, see materials list for details.

Love stripes but hate how all those color changes mean weaving in a bunch of ends or (worse yet) an edge that looks messy? You need to learn designer Lisa Carney-Fenton's Elegant I-Cord Edge technique for creating a clean, polished edge when knitting projects with stripes! While working a practice swatch, Lisa will show you how to neatly conceal the contrast color yarn at the side of your work. A pattern showcasing this technique was first published in the Knitty Winter 2016 issue of their online magazine. Designs featuring this technique were also published in the Brooklyn Tweed Outpost Newsletter Winter 2017/2018.

If it's Autumn, it must be time for pumpkins! In this class you'll learn how to crochet Darla's pattern for a festive pumpkin basket, complete with a lid. Specific techniques that will be covered include turning while working in the round, increasing and decreasing in half double crochet, front post and back post double crochets, adjustable ring beginning and nearly invisible join finishing.
