We've fallen head over heels for Black Elephant! Each unique skein is dyed by Petra at her studio in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Colorways range from vivid brights to moody neutrals, often with unexpected speckles and pops of contrasting colors.
Meet the Maker: Petra moved from her native Slovakia to the UK over 10 years ago and rediscovered her love of knitting, started a blog, and began making instructional knitting videos in her native tongue. Eventually she began dyeing yarn and Black Elephant was created. The company name was inspired by a cute little elephant on the cover of Petra's knitting journal combined with her surname, Schwarz, which means black in German.
Petra says that "after looking for meanings of elephant I found out that to the Hindu way of thought, the elephant is found in the form of Ganesha who is the god of luck and is a blessing upon all new projects which is the most fitting for my yarn adventure. My Black Elephant is my blessing. I hope you will enjoy my hand dyed yarns and kits."
